Fields of Faith

“Oh Man!” what a time we had! Wednesday night October 8 was a true time of blessing, as JCHS hosted "Fields of Faith.” Youth groups not just Johnson County but thru out the nation as well participated as well. F of F is an activity sponsored annually by Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and this year an estimated 5,000 schools participated. This year the event in Johnson County was held inside the Shoun Gym instead of the usual Paul McEwen Stadium because of the rainy weather. But neither the weather nor the change in plans could dampen the Holy Spirit, because he was definitely in attendance.First Christian youth along with youth groups from many local congregations participated in worship, praise and prayer. Over the course of the evening several JCHS students took the opportunity to share their testimonies and concerns with the crowd or to sing. It was great to have our own FCC youth leaders Scott Plyler, Donda Plyler and Dorinda Walters lead the music. Attendees of our Wednesday night youth that took an active role in the program were Molly Henson, Katie Cole, and Nick Blackwell. I am doing this from memory so if I left anyone out be sure to let me know! One of the other high points of the evening though was when the students gathered together by class or grade and spent time in prayer. The some of the focus of the prayer time was for the faculty, staff and support personnel of their particular schools, an end to bullying and aggressive behavior in the schools, to pray specifically requests in small groups as well as for each other. It was encouraging to see so many at our high school take a public stand and talk about faith as well as some of the things that trip us up. Gossip was one of the subjects mentioned more than once, and I must admit that I was convicted about my own conversations with others. But the mood and them of the evening was very uplifting, and the youth and leaders that I have talked with have all felt a fresh sense of GOD’s power in our youth. Praise HIM!Greg
